Of course, I talk to myself -- I need to have SOMEONE who listens to me!

At a tire tread and repair products plant I used to work at...I overheard some employees talking about another employee (named Mahlon) who would on occasion talk to himself (specifically telling himself jokes and then laughing)

I let the voices in my head do all the talking; I usually don't listen, though.

Since the people around me can be animated, anxious, hands in the air, coins jingling in the pockets, pacing back and forth, talking to fast, not talking at all, or otherwise in need of my "steadiness," I tend to hear one voice in my head saying the things I would like to say out loud, while the one that speaks is the kinder, gentler steady voice most need to hear in order to keep the situation in check.

That's generally the same whether it is a family situation or a work situation.

I talk to myself a lot...but rarely out loud.
