NHC mentioned 130KT in their discussion

did one of the two misread 130 as 103 or something? That is bizzarre that NOAA would be that far apart

SEVERAL EYEWALL DROPSONDES
HAVE MEASURED SURFACE WINDS IN THE 110-130 KT RANGE. ONE SUCH
SONDE MEASUREMENT MIGHT NOT BE REPRESENTATIVE OF SUSTAINED SURFACE
WINDS... BUT A SEQUENCE OF THEM PROBABLY PROVIDES A REASONABLE
ESTIMATED OF THE INTENSITY... WHICH IS ESTIMATED TO BE IN THE
MIDDLE OF THIS RANGE AT 120 KT. THE ADVISORY INTENSITY IS ALSO
SUPPORTED BY 18Z DVORAK INTENSITY ESTIMATES THAT ARE UNANIMOUSLY
T6.5/127 KT.

They took the middle of the road...

Where is Poinacia ?

South of Kissimmee. Osceola/Polk county line.
Charley passed thru right there and here in Kissimmee.!! However Wilma's windfield is much larger, CAt1 winds may return here not good.

We had 120+ MPH winds at the house. The last thing I saw on the TV for 6 days was Tom Terry saying "Poinciana, hunker down, because it is....."
We losted power here watching tom show the center reaching Poinciana, I remember.

the storm is moving very slowly with the eyewall directly over cancun and a dropsonde just southeast of the city picked up a surface wind of 137 knots.

ouch

If that 137 knots is right then it had to be that strong the whole time. What on earth???

Ah yes. Hunker down. Tom could have made a bumper sticker of that and sold it.

Not so fond memories of "hunkering down" in the bathtub of my house with Tom on the radio during Charley. Talk about a night I'll never forget.

I don't think they've had a handle on this storm since day 1.

keep in mind that dropsonde could have recorded a gust, not necessarilly a sustained wind, but still, 137 knots is up there.

Howdy neighbor!
I vote we boycott the latest GFS and GFDL!

gust or sustained that is severe. CAT 5 gusts would cause extreme damage.

can smeone tell if this is a wobble or not. If you watch the eye over the lil island, it looks like its moving north not across it!
