42.4 knots at the surface. It is likley because of a thunderstorm.

I'm still suspicious of that reading - that's an awfully tight wind gradient. If nothing else, the wind seems unrepresentative.

They entered the center through the NE quad. There is not much convection there. Thats why it was so brief. I can't wait until they sample the southeast Quad.

Yeah... I'm suspect too. If it were surrounded by similar winds(even 40-45 kt), I could buy it... but it's not. It could be true though.

Oh I'm not saying it isn't possible.. I would just like more confirmation reading at over 50knots before digesting that as a for sure thing.

The vortex data message just came in. The pressure is still at 1012mb, and they noted that the 53kt wind was recorded in a thunderstorm cell.
