I'd like an answer to this question too. I remember reading somewhere they can be tracked but then I remember in the movie about the tornadoes that one of them went in a strange direction.

Well, if I remember correctly if your in the field or whatever, just look at the tornado. If you don't see it moving to your left or right, its headed for you or further away from you. I hope this answered your question and didn't confuse you. BTW the movie your thinking of I believe is the movie "Tornado". The storm was moving right then stopped and went left and destroyed a town.
