im trying to download a plane from AVSIM.com and can somebody explain in laymans terms how to download a plane.

Well usually with sites like this, you need to obtain a login account and log in then go to their "file library" section... It's somewhat similier to a site that I've frequently visited at http://www.train-sim.com/ .
