Hurricane Agnes

I looked hurricane maps for Agnes (1972) and noticed over land, they re-developed into tropical storms over land, particularly over North Carolina. I know with Danny it was because of a front that triggered it to intensify. As for Agnes, that makes me wonder.

Similar situation with the dynamics associated with the upper air pattern helping Agnes to reintensify. Camille in VA is another example of where the proximity of a front had an important role-Camille was beginning to reintensify as it moved over SE VA and became a TS just offshore.

Interesting. I never thought that fronts could allow storms to reintensify. I wonder how often it has happened in the past.

Steve I was here in Hampton for that. Camille passed right over me.

I was working the mid shift at Langley AFB that morning. The first squall band came through just after I got off work.
