What is this? (a image of Ernesto)

This is a shot of Ernesto this evening. The image is slightly blurred due to switching from .Gif to .jpeg format. I have seen this on some tropical cyclones but I can't tell what exactly it really is. I've seen different types of it as well but this one is really different. What is it?

I've seen it in Ioke as well. Probably good fanning in the upper levels.

Looks like transverse waves in the cirrus outflow.

As I understand it, when flow gets going, it's not unusal for waves to set up at right angles to the flow--it appears, then as fanning parallel to the flow. This appears on satellite like wrinkles in the clouds. I think I have all that terminology right...
