I want to go. But, I would have to find someone to ride with. I am big chicken when it comes to driving in cities especially New Orleans. Plus, I am awful with directions. I only drive around the Houma-Thibodaux area. The furthest I ever drove to was Grand Isle. I know, I am a big baby. LOL

Just a suggestion from far away, you might not want to meet at the Lakefront. That area is in bad shape, and you couldn't get there without going through some destroyed neighborhoods. I was there last month, I think the lakefront pavillions were destroyed. I know the area around the yacht club is bad, everything to the east of the 17th Street Canal is bad. Actually, just behind the levee, to the west of the canal, restaurants were open, while right on the other side of the flood gates at the lake, condos and piers are destroyed, sailboats scattered on shore.

Best areas are near the river. I spent a week at my friend's house about 4 blocks from Audubon park. Neighborhood seems virtually untouched, although a lot of restaurants are not open (lack of help and business reasons mostly).

Wish I could join all the gulf coasters. You folks are the core of S2K and you've all been through so much. I went to Mardi Gras again this year to give New Orleans a hug and spend some money. I rode in the Tucks parade on Saturday and it was amazing, nearly as a big a crowd uptown as last year, under perfect skies (which had been forecast to wash out all the parades that day).

If people are coming in from out of town, getting off I=10 and coming down Carollton puts you near Audubon park and the restaurants and bars of the riverbend area. Cooter Browns is a good informal place to hang out for lunch or at night, it's at the foot of Carollton at the river levee.

Y'all have a great time.

BTW, the St. Charles streetcar wasn't operational last month, making it harder to go between uptown and the Quarter. There were are a lot of traffic lights out on Clairborne. St. Charles ave looks as good as ever, though.

I would love to see this happen. It would be great to meet some of ya'll in person. I am open most any weekend as long as I have a week or two notice. NO is not dangerous but it is really depressing. The casino idea sounds good to me though.

There are a lot of nice Pavillions available at Lafreniere Park, in Metairie. Even a closed in one with a great view of the ponds and park area... someone would have to contact them to see if anything's available--but it's both scenic, and not in an area of massive surrounding devastation--just a suggestion.

Let me add my words of encouragement to those who are a little dubious about going to New Orleans. We went down just before Mardi Gras and had a wonderful weekend.

We live about four hours away in west central Alabama, and have been going down to NO several weekends a year for many years. We finally decided we just had to go to see things for ourselves.

We shed a few tears here and there, but were so impressed with how hard everyone is working to rebuild and renew.

The French Quarter looks about the same, and I understand more restaurants and hotels are opening every day.

We stayed at the Royal Sonesta and had a fabulous (as usual) dinner at Galatoire's, and are planning another trip down with a group of friends sometime soon.

New Orleans may never be exactly the same, but the important part of the city--its spirit--will never change.
