Storm2k Template Change.. Please Read!!

#1 Postby chadtm80 » Mon Jun 28, 2004 3:46 pm

Good Afternoon everyone I have some news that may upset some, but others will like. Storm2k has MULTIPLE templates in our Data base. Its a real pain for us to up date each and every template everytime there is a change to the site. We have come up with Two default templates that we are going to use for the site and the others are going to be removed. Both templates match the site, one dark and one light. Both will have all the same features and all the same links. Those that are on one of the templates we are removing will automaticly be moved to the template that resembles there current one the most.. IE: Dark templates will be moved to the standard dark and light to the light. Both Templates are GREAT! There should be no problems with anyone not liking one or the other. This is going to save Marshall and I a LOT of hassel. Hope everyone understands. Comments welcome as always!! But if your one of teh ones that are upset, please dont throw anything to heavy

The two templates that will be kept are "WSdark blue" (our current default template) and the other will be "FI Sub Silver Shadow" (this is a new template I just created.. This will be for the members who prefer a lighter template) You have to do nothing in order for the changes to happen.. We will be updating everyones personally from our end.. Feel free to check them out your selves in the meantime in your profile under the section "board Style"

Again thanks for your understanding!!

Chad

Where's my iron skillet??? LOL, j/k, Chad!
(*breeze ducks - no offense, Duckie!)

I can see where managing two templates will
be much easier. And, if every link to everything
imaginable on the site is included, it should
work out great! ;)

Code: Select all

Template          # of members    % of members

 1  WS [DarkBlue]           1,036            60%
 2  subRebel                  252            15%
 3  subSilver                 207            12%
 4  BlueLagoon                 83             5%
 5  Classic                    72             4%
 6  VereorLordoftheRings       26             2%
 7  fisubgreen                 13             1%
 8  FI Subsilver Shadow        12             1%
 9  fiblack                    11             1%
10 FI Plain                    5             0%

                           1,717           101%

Hopefully a logical question that I will probably regret asking for acually understanding:
What is the difference between managing two templates and having the ten above?

The difference is having to make the changes we constantly make to this site on only 2 templates instead of 10. Changes do not automatically pass through to each template when they are made on another template.

That makes sense. I am aware that changes do not take place automatically through to each template when they are made on another.

I remember Chad and/or Marshall having to add features to new ones made.

Was this not thought about prior to adding them? Should there be a vote on the two most favorite light and dark colored template?

Also, if we remain set on one of the templates that is removed, I assume we will be able to log in and change it in our profile.....

Yes this was thought out Prior to adding them Tom. However at that time I was working from home and had TONS more time to spend on storm2k. There was no vote we went with the two that was best for us and our members.... If you are on that is removed you will have to do nothing. We will move everyone to one of the default templates. This will NOT affect your browsing at all. It will all happen instantly and there will be no personal downtime from it.

Didn't think there would be any "problems." Unfortunately it may seem like I did.

I like bringing up issues that may come up for fellow members, although I am sure I am missing possible questions or concerns others have.

No Problem Tom. Just answering your questions. Marshall and I's Time can get very limited at times, and this is just going to help us out a ton :-)

Geez, the "Top Style Stat" speaks for themselves.  Why did I ever ask?
