Local News Channel and Storm2k

#1 Postby weatherwunder » Sun Jun 22, 2003 1:10 am

I just sent an email to our local news channel inquiring if they could mention Storm2k during the weather report.

I will keep everyone updated on their reply.

I am gonna get some Nebraska members somehow.

If this works and/or an interesting reply is given to Weatherwunder... Maybe more of us can e-mail our local news stations for potential replies. :D

Woohoo, spreading the word!!! WW, the S2K plug may have more of an impact now in your area due to the recent tornado outbreak. Keep us posted.

Would S2K consider allowing people in as guests?
With such publicity, we could get an influx of "tire kickers" who could register and then never participate again. Our membership rolls would inflate with people never to be heard from again. There's been some discussion already about inactive members.

Just being a devil's advocate and trying to stimulate discussion.

Ed, what different would giving the site exposure by having members view it and than never come back again?

IMO, as long as we have had some exposure, we should be getting some new members. The mere fact that we have had some exposure should create a flurry of new posters IMO.

We allow guests to see the weather portion of the board. This is especially for the tire kickers. :-) They do not have to register in order to read the posts. The off topic area is reserved for our members only.

As with most board, you have to register in order to post. This is our only way of controlling / preventing trolls. :-)

Yes, and I think that's how it should be, Marshall... We are already getting a lot of new members... and some of them are posting, but some of them are not.

Makes sense to me, Marshall. I am just not sure why visitors would come and then never accesss the site again (at least in the near future)... technically it doesn't matter if they accessed it or not.

Some people are lurkers. They may visit often and use the board as an information source but never post. I know I lurk on several boards myself. That's just the way it is. The good thing is that even lurkers talk and spread the word about our board :-)

Honestly, that's the answer I was looking for, Marshall. I find it easier once I remember a message board site, I will most likely post on it at least a little bit. The times I have not made even one post on a message board was when I registered and was busy on other boards and surfing the internet and doing things like we all do offline.

When you are online doing other things, including being active at other message boards you can easily not get back to the site you joined. Perhaps that is what many members here have done.

The issue now is to let those members that think this is not only a message board for solely tropical weather discussions, but a site to visit to discuss all weather and other topics, as well. To just have a weather discussion we wouldn't know anything else about one another. :)
