A North Carolina man who believes victims of Hurricane Rita have not received as much help as Hurricane Katrina victims will ride on the back of a horse to Texas to help.
Thomas Lester is a North Carolina cowboy with a cause. Lester says his quest is to help the victims of Hurricane Rita, who, in his opinion, have not received much help compared to victims of Katrina. One step at a time, Lester and his horse, Howard, are riding all the way from Hickory, North Carolina to Beaumont, hoping to collect checks along the way. Lester has recently been battling health problems, but he says that won't stop his trip. Lester says when the terrain becomes too unbearable Howard will be loaded inside a trailer. Lester hopes to arrive in Texas within a month, but in the meantime, he and Howard are just enjoying the ride.
"Those people need help so why shouldn't I help them," said Lester. "They had a clip on a guy in Beaumont standing in front of pieces of his house and they were interviewing him and he said they were not as big as New Orleans but they were just as bad. And that bothered me that they wasn't getting any help. And I want to do something."
