It seems like nobody on this board ever has anything good to say about news crews out in the field. I'll bet they have been suffering quite a bit too the last few days. I'd love to see some of you guys report from New Orleans, in a mass of angry people with filthy conditions and see how well you hold up. Give the folks a break

Yeah. You know .. I've actually started to like Geraldo a little more over the last couple of years, but tonight was a little too much even for Geraldo! I know that what they're seeing has got to be horrendous, but ..

They were saying that all we needed to do was let those poor people start walking over the bridge to places like Gretna. Now, I don't know a whole lot about LA other than NOLA, but would Gretna really be prepared for a huge influx of refugees? Isn't Gretna flooded too (or not)? What would Gretna do with potentially thousands of people coming over the bridge? I think things would go from bad to worse for both parties quick!

The bottom line is that they need to get all of those people OUT of NOLA soon, even if they have to use every bus in the SE!

Anderson Cooper... great reporter.

Shepard Smith... has evolved from way too cocky on Monday to a very sensitive and poignant reporter. I really believe he has been affected deeply by this story.

Geraldo... needs to be pulled off the air immediately. He is acting like a 4 year-old kid. Its completely embarassing. I saw Bill O'Reilly desperately trying to rein him in tonight. One of the most unprofessional reports I have EVER seen. Talk about grand-standing. Why is he on the air????

Geraldo has been doing "Geraldo" for over thirty years. That's what made him famous (for better or worse).

Shep started locally in Florida (I don't think it was his first station though) and almost got killed from CO poisoning from sitting in the back of a news van at the cheapskate local CBS affiliate early in the 90s. He's turned into a pretty decent anchor, but was always a very good reporter. He was certainly too good for the local CBS affiliate!

From his FNC bio:

Before joining FNC, Smith was a Los Angeles based Fox News Edge correspondent where he covered a wide range of stories for the FOX affiliate news service, including the crash of TWA Flight 800, the Montana Freemen Standoff, the 1996 presidential campaign, and the Oklahoma City bombing. Prior to his stint at Fox News Edge, Smith served as a news reporter for the Twentieth Television syndicated program "A Current Affair."

Smith attended the University of Mississippi and began his journalism career at WJHG-TV (NBC) in Panama City, Florida. He is a native of Holly Springs, Mississippi.

Yep. I don't think he wants any mention of having worked for WKMG (I think it was WCPX back then) since they almost killed him. I thought he was here for a couple of years, but with all of that info in his resume it must have been much shorter.

The news director at WCPX was not a news man. IIRC, he was a bean counter and the company decided he should turn the department around. They had news trucks that were like 10 years old and well worn. One night he and his camerman were editing footage in the field in the back of one of those vans and he passed out. Shep left, the station remained at a solid #3 out of 3 in the ratings, and not much later the bean counter went back to counting beans for another employer (I assume).

This is shameless post-padding, but I'm only here for once a year and this seems to be the place it should've been.
From http://www.storm2k.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=73374 :
Geraldo needs to be hung. I do not disagree that those poor unfortunate souls at the Convention Center are hurting and really pissed off, but Geraldo is trying to incite a riot for ratings. Every other word out of his mouth is "once it gets dark, things are gonna get bad" or "LOOK at this poor poor baby. WHAT was the government thinking?! I'd be angry as hell<insert fake tears while holding baby>."
You'd think he'd bow out of the game after doing the same damn thing many years ago and getting hit in the face with a chair. Geraldo was the kid in elementary school who told all the girls who his friends liked even though it was a "secret." Tries desperately to get a reaction. Makes me sick.
And Shep got into the drama as well only after Geraldo started his spewing. I like Shep too even though he works for FOX. I only watch FOX during 'canes. Rest of the time it's just Repub drivel.
Rant off. :)

Some people don't like Geraldo and that is fine but he is human and this situation along the Gulf Coast would bring everyone to tears.

I love Shep in the field. His coverage in Iraq was beyond compare. And he's done a bang-up job here too.

Question is, how much water??? How much water does it take to REHYDRATE a person who is dehydrated????Lets say 6 cases of water. With 24 bottles in each case. May look like alot but......that is only 144 bottles. Even an entire pallet.... give or take 12 cases, 288 bottles. Probably 12 oz bottles. Maybe 16 oz. Is this enough to substain these people?? I think not.

At this point, I doubt any government official(including our IQ-deficient president) is stupid enough to send an insufficient amount of water. The situation is already political suicide. Why add kindling to the fire? They are definitely getting enough water and, most likely, enough MRE's to feed Rhode Island.

I think it is idiotic that people are angry at the government because they arent getting food. They didn't evacuate and then they blame the government. I think that the national hurricane center and the media did the best job they could have possibly done to warn new orleans that a category 5 hurricane was going to nail them. Give me a break.

There probably is sufficient amount that is there. But I doubt they are handing it out that way. Here is a sample of how it is "handed out" http://sigmund.biz/kat20050901%20part%2 ... ure074.jpg

As for MRE's......I didn't realize that the military made food for babies, or for elderly that may have no teeth. hhmmm.....Guess I should let all my military friends know this one. Do you have any idea how many heavy drop pallets it takes to feed this many people(in the convention center)???And do you now how many pallets can be held by a black hawk???
And don't forget all the people who are not being feed or watered on the bridges.
