Central Florida Sending $ and Opening Classrooms

#1 Postby CentralFlGal » Fri Sep 02, 2005 12:19 am

Local news channel raised over $171,000.00 for Katrina victims.

Schools are allowing displaced school children to register for this fall session. Records requirements are waived. University of Central Florida is also opening its doors; admission fees are waived and tuition is offered to out-of-state students affected by Katrina at in-state rates.

Same thing going on in these parts. There's a state law that is supposed to give free tuition at public college and universities to displaced evacuees in these situations, and we're already getting students like that enrolling for that.

Our county school board is having an emergency meeting next week to authorize payment for extra portable classrooms and teachers in order to accomidate the LA/MS that are now starting to enroll.
