I understand that San Antonio and Dallas were both going to take in 25,000 refugees themselves.

well if they over fill - what would happen if there was a fire?? another disaster because they could not get out quickly enough.
There are other cities opening their doors - there will end up being room enough at the inn's.

Oh yeah... heck hasn't broke loose yet, but you can feel it coming. Kinda like lifting the lid off a boiling pot.

I just cannot beleive that no one knew this before stating that they would accept 25,000 evacuees. I feel so bad for the people of New Orleans. I am so sorry our country has let you down.

It's true

#15 Postby Eye10TX » Thu Sep 01, 2005 11:19 pm

I just posted this on another thread. They have shut it down! I heard helicopters flying that direction, several of them, and wondered what was going on -- then we had a breaking news report ...

~~~~~~
BREAKING NEWS: No more people can be accepted in the Astrodome. No one knows how many people are in there--the Red Cross lost count. Our City Fire Marshall's office has said it's overcrowded. One news report earlier tonight said that 4000 are in there--but a doctor on the inside said there are 10,000. Oh, no! And several DOZEN more busloads have arrived and are not being allowed to unload. Oh no.
I never said I didn't feel for them - I have shed many many tears, but I also know that once again you have to be realistic as well. More cities in Tx are opening their doors for them. I can only hope they will be able to take them in tonight or tomorrow.
I so totally agree. Why did Texas not notify the pwers that be in NO that the doors were close to busting out????
And this was not just ONE bus but at least 3 of them!!!!!!!!!!!
if some are truly tearing up the place already - then what is going to happen? I would think not many would want to deal with this. It makes me sick what a few can do to ruin things for everyone else.
I mean i just don't get it. Didn't FEMA and the Red Cross consult the Fire Marshall before commiting to accepting 25,000 evacuees? I mean isn't this normal for them to ensure the safty of any shelter? I am just so disgusted with the situation there. Everyone is passing the ball.
Were the doors closed due to it being more packed in then what they realized it would be or because people are tearing it up????
Have not heard anything about people tearing it up.......
