Book Drive for Harrison County Libraries

#1 Postby sfgal » Thu Jun 15, 2006 3:39 pm

I just found out about a book drive for the Harrison County libraries ravaged by Katrina. THe libraries have submitted Wish Lists to Amazon; I ordered two books for the Pass Christian library. As an avid book reader who grew up haunting my local libraries in Louisiana (many of which were also ravaged by Katrina), I had to support this particular book drive!

(I've never started a thread before, so I hope I did this correctly).

Very soon after Katrina, I called a school district in Mississippi that was very badly hit. I offered to start a book drive that would involve my whole county, catalog the books (if they got me on their system), store the books until needed, and then talk someone into delivering them to the school district. By the way, I was a library assistant in both elementary and college libraries. I know how to catalog, retired and had plenty of time to devote to the project. They turned me down.
