Attorney: Oil Companies responsible for Katrina

#1 Postby MGC » Sat Mar 25, 2006 6:15 pm

This from the Sunherald Saturday 3/25/06:

Attorney Gerald Maples filed a class action suit against all the insurance companies, mortgage companies and all the oil companies. The oil companies allegedly increased global warming and produced the conditions where "a storm of the strength and size of Hurricane Katrina would inevitably form and strike the Mississippi Gulf Coast."

This must be some kind of joke.....MGC

This is funny. Obviously, he doesn't have a prayer. You all may be interested to know that there have been whispers of Louisiana filing suit against the oil companies for slicing up the coast for oil exploration and extraction... leading to accelerated land loss. But, fear not oil execs... politicians in Louisiana will kill this suit in fear of aleinating the state's largest employer. I'm not sure how I feel about this one. In the least, it's a little food for thought.

I think the clown that filed the suit blaming global warming on the oil companies should be disbarred, or as someone else has stated, be forced to pay ALL expenses if/when he loses--as he surely will. This is publicity pandering nonsense IMHO. But the point about what some of the industries have done to Louisiana's coastline IS a valid one.

Personally I think the citizens of St. Bernard and the lower Ninth should sue the STATE, if necessary, to close down that stupid MRGO, which there is still no plan to eliminate, even though just about EVERY expert agrees it is a primary cause of loss of wetland areas throughout the St. Bernard, Lake Borgne basin, was a MAJOR influence in funnelling in the surge that inundated the area, and is barely used any more for anything but barge traffice.

And I agree, sadly, that our pathetic politicians would, in all likelihood see to it that it got nowhere--more's the pity!
