AUSTIN, Texas (WFAA ABC 8/AP) - Thirteen fugitives from Louisiana hiding out in Texas since the Hurricane Katrina evacuation have been captured, state officials said Monday.
A statement issued by Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott said eleven men and two women were all wanted as suspects in violent crimes. Nine were caught in Houston, two were taken in Fort Worth, and one each were captured in Austin and Conroe.
Abbott said his Fugitive Unit rounded up the suspects in late November and early December. He said they acted on information from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Governor's Office of Homeland Security.
The unit was also assisted by local law enforcement in Harris, Tarrant and Montgomery counties.
Among those still sought is Eugene Davis, 38, who is wanted for allegedly violating his parole from a manslaughter conviction in a 1985 fatal abuse case involving an infant.
