Stacy Stewart possibly out for the season

#1 Postby bbadon » Tue May 22, 2007 7:49 am

I was at a conference in Houston last week in which Forecaster:Blake was a guest speaker. I was speaking to Mr. Blake after his presentation and he mentioned that Stacy Stewart was on military duty and would most likely be out of the NHC for the entire season. I know there are several fans of Mr. Stewart on this site, I being one of those fans and will dearly miss his intriguing Tropical weather discussions.

I toured the NHC with Stacy this past fall. You're correct. He's out.

It sort of became obvious after every forecaster but him did statements/advisories on Andrea and TWOs in the EPac.

Military service is important...no question. But in terms of the the Federal Gov correctly serving the needs of the people having someone like Stewart missing from the NHC during Hurricane Season is fairly idiotic.

Taking him out of the NHC is beyond idiotic. It is unbelievable.

He will probably miss us as much as we miss him. It's probably hard for him to be taken away from the NHC, but I commend him for his duty to our country :)

Taking him out of the NHC is beyond idiotic. It is unbelievable.

Why would they even consider it? Dumb.

It's hard to see how such detailed hurricane expertise could be better used by having him elsewhere. Although I would be a lot happier knowing he was working hurricanes for the military than having him do administrative paperwork in Afghanistan.

You better believe it... and we require great meteorologists in the tropical field.

Did they say what part of the military he was in? He may very well be in the reserves. If they're called up, they must go regardless of their job.

*Salutes Mr. Stewart*

Well, he was with the JTWC previously. I'm not familiar with the US system, but if him previously with the JTWC means anything...

Hey bbadon I was at the conference as well. Dr Gray is a phenomenal speaker. He blasted and disproved global warming caused the greenhouse effect. Joe is also an excellent high energy speaker. I had nice chat with him during lunch. I set in the first seat of second row on the left.

Maybe he wanted to go. Maybe he thought it would be a good experience to have more resources than he gets at NHC. Maybe, maybe , maybe.

PACOM (U.S. Pacific Command) has need of someone with his qualifications. If I had to guess, I'd say that's where he'd serve.

Sure is surprising to take an expert out of his current position when he can half year here and half year there.
Oh well, they know better than we do; I guess....... :?:

At least those in the field do (avoiding anything more political than that) :demrep:

Huh ... well that makes a little less sense to me, but of course they do need meteorolgists there, even if the tropical weather expertise isn't of as much use as it would be in the Pacific ...

Hope he stays safe.
