Fox News--Diff. Landfall Poss.
I just saw Joe B. on Fox, and he said that Ernesto will likely make landfall on the western Fl. coast BELOW Tampa. He also said it could move straight up the state from the Keys northward, thus affecting SE Fl. This is the first I've heard of that possibility. Anyone else?

He basically repeated what Mayfield said. It's amazing to me that they cut off Mayfield at the beginning of his news conference to yield to Bastardi, then cut Bastardi off. Oh well.
Mayfield said that the Panhandle, Peninsula, and Carolinas all need to be watching and said that the SW landfall with a northward movement is possible. In discussing the forecast process, he cited the GFDL and GFS.

Im in agreement with the gfs current model runs. I also agree with the keys and up north through the state or a se fl landfall near key largo with just a little slice of florida involved. IMO It would not be the pennisula at all and west coast (tampa northward) is only 25% ft myers and all keys and se florida 75% chance IMO based on the current conditions.

Yet, local mets in SE FL just said that we will receive NO big impact at all, just some squalls and tornado watches due to the storm's movement on the WEST coast of FL. They don't even hint at a storm coming up the state from the Keys.
It is all quite confusing and makes me remember once again the unpredictability of hurricanes.
