Ernesto local reports

#1 Postby bvigal » Fri Aug 25, 2006 10:13 pm

Probably some others will be posting their local reports within the next few days... Do we have any members from southern PR? How about DR? I'm worried they will have flooding.

I just took advantage of a lull to plug my computer back in, but don't have long. Some really nasty tstorms off and on since about 6pm! Not much wind, but lightning and thunder and torrential rain. It rolled in from the south about 5:30, the skies just became charcoal grey all over - it was wierd.

Flood advisory for Virgin Islands has now been extended to portions of Puerto Rico, as heavy rains in squalls moving over PR from SE. Still raining hard here, too.

Went to sleep with a nice steady rain and rumblings, cooled down enough for a light blanket; woke up late/early to stillness and heat heat heat, woke up again at 6 a.m. to barely a drizzle, gone now, and barely a breeze but cooler than that weird heat, with the radar showing light rains headed this way. No idea what's going on San Juan area, but maybe Luis will let us know - they usually get much more rain on the big island than we do.
My immediate (as in through tomorrow) concern is for Haiti (they get in so much of a mess with rains, little to no ground cover) and later heavily populated Jamaica :(

Good morning, MJ!! I'm worried about Haiti/DR, too, the potential for plenty of rain is there! The lightning around here was pretty spectacular, but I didn't sit out and watch it, too tired.

Believe it or don't, I'm just posting the picture. This is radar rain. The BVI are not on this radar view, only on the long range. And from there, it's too small to see. The only way to see the BVI is to do the long-range loop, and then zoom. But, you can compare the two and see who had the most rain last night!

We recieved in San Juan last night a few strong bands of heavy rain with a spectacular lighting show in the ocean north of the city. But right now it's cloudy with only light drizzle falling.

That looks more like a piece of art than the radar...I'd love to have that framed at the cart!! ;)
We got just enough rain a little bit ago with dark clouds to close up, then the SECOND the last lock was locked, the sun came out. I told some tourists walking by to thank me, as the law is...close cart, sun comes out...oh well, it's almost siesta time anyway.
