This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

When will Ernesto form?

#1 Postby CrazyC83 » Tue Aug 22, 2006 11:12 pm

Now that we have Debby, I think we should guess the next one.

My guess: August 24 (Thursday) from 97L.

I guess this is a good way to have a first post...

I'll say, Friday Morning... August, 25th.

Moving into South Padre Island, as a TS....

My guess is August 24th at 5:00 pm EST. That's for the depression, not the TS. It would be from Invest 97L.

Wild guess - Friday afternoon and moving into the GOM - from there, it's up for grabs.

I'd say Friday, tpc already suggesting td soon on 97l. GOMer for Ernesto, Debby a fish. Maybe a homegrown in the Gulf. EC can relax for at least a week or more (personaly hoping for the rest of the season).

I agree with most here, Ernesto could form in the GoM as early as this weekend. All things being equal, I would rather it form up spin prettily then go away.

But I do think it is an outside chance of it forming this soon.

I think Ernesto could form out of 97L and could become a TD as early as late Thursday night or Friday of this week. Where is it going? Who knows? I would say anywhere in the GOM is up for grabs. Wait and see in a couple of days to see the whole picture.

Ernesto forms this weekend in the western Caribbean and threatens Texas by the middle of next week as a strong tropical storm.

(-removed-? You bet, I want some rain!!)

Strong tropical storm? More like a major hurricane...

Let the games begin, people already calling for 97L to be a major hurricane. Cart is 15 miles ahead of the horse. Remember Chris?

Ahem dwg (clears throat) ... I said strong tropical storm, NOT major hurricane. Although it appears many here do believe Ernesto will be a big boy threatening someone next week.

The trend this season certainly has been watching fledgling systems get squashed. I guess the big question is have atmospheric conditions changed enough to encourage development? Most of the pro mets I have read seem to be saying it has.

And what about direction of this "system"? Is everyone in agreement at this stage that it is a threat to Texas, or where?
