Question Hurricane strike frequency by direction in Florida

#1 Postby the_winds_that_sheared_me » Sun Aug 20, 2006 7:10 pm

I am guessing that most maps like this one http://image.weather.com/images/maps/tr ... 20x486.jpg only take into consideration hurricane strikes coming across your coast as the initial landfall. Florida has a chance that a hurricane may cross you after hitting the other coast like come from the gulf across towards the Atlantic or vice versa. Is there a strike frequency map for this too or is this already figured in?

Here is an example of what I am talking about. In Fla, your area may only see a storm every 11-15 years but Does this include storms that affect you from coming across the state from an area that gets hit every 4-6 years. So if your area only sees a storm every 11-15 years, does that include storms that affect you but first hit somewhere else? Click map below to see what I am saying. If this is not included, Where would I find a map that shows how often my area is hit from all directions including the west or gulf?

I dont know...however that map is a tad off for my area... 2003 Hurricane Isabel, 2004 Hurricane Alex, Hurricane Charley, 2005 Hurricane Ophelia, 2006...season still going so unknown...it says for my area they pass within 85 miles of here as a hurricane every 4-6 years...well in the past three years, not including this year, we have had 4 hurricanes impact my area of NC...
