A hurricane(s) story from the USVI's

#1 Postby caribepr » Wed May 24, 2006 6:09 am

This is from stormcarib.com from a writer living on Tortola now. It brought back a lot of memories and re-made the impression of how important it is to be as ready as possible...even though there is only so much *ready* you can be.
There are also some interesting points about the aftermath, US versus BVI's (and other islands).
What isn't mentioned is that there is no Home Depot to go to, few gas stations (here we have two, but they only carry enough fuel for about a week...depending on tourist usage, govt crisis, etc) that everything that gets to the islands is shipped or flown in and that doesn't happen quickly or in large quantities. Reading about the aftermath of Katrina, et al, I was reminded so much of what life was like here.
It's time to put some ice in the sea!
