Hurricane Season doesn't Punch a time clock.

I find it funny how some people think because June 1rst is the official start to the 2006 Atlantic Hurricane season, that come Midnight a Storm is going to pop up out of no where and scream towards the coast of The United States. We may get an early storm or two....we may not get one till august. No one knows when the first system will form. There are a lot of experts on this board and for that we are truly lucky

I have read so many posts lately saying this season is going to be this and this season is going to be that. The only thing we know for sure is, One the season starts on June 1rst and two it ends the end of November. The rest is yet to be told. My point is.....Listen to the experts and experienced amateurs. Take everyone else with a grain of salt. That's what I have done and it has worked thus far. The most important thing to do is.... Prepare early...it only takes ONE storm to turn your life up side down. It doesn't matter when we get our first system. All that matters is we are all prepared. Whether we have a late start to the season or an early one doesn't really matter. The key is preparation. We should all be prepared by June 1rst but like I said, even if we don't get an early system...don't let your guard down.

I know I hope I prepare for no reason at all and after last year..I am sure many feel the same way. I would rather be ready to leave for a false alarm any day. Then running around like a chicken with my head cut off at the last minute.

I agree 100% rainband! The best you can do is have your hurricane plan in place come june 1.hopefully 2006 will be kind to the U.S.

One thing that does happen on June 1st, however, is that the NHC starts issuing Tropical outlooks so that you have a better idea of what is going on in thne tropics. Also, as we have seen many times before, storms DO form in June (even early June), so just because it is rare, it is certainly more possible than a storm forming in May.

I agree with the thought that June 1 is simply an arbitrarily-set day. You are just as likely to see a storm on May 31 as on June 1, for instance.

Good points rainband. While the Atlantic Hurricane season runs from June 1st to Nov. 30th it is always hurricane season year around on storm2k!

Its always hurricane season in the Atlantic it just depends if the conditions are right.

It certainly doesn't use one to end the season either, as last year proved.

I have a feeling/hunch/nothing scientifically based that over the next few years we might very well see several hurricanes outside the traditional hurricane season.

The season kind of does punch a time clock...

August 1st to October 1st...
She does however come in a little early (sometimes real early)
and stay a little late...

Last year she got paid A LOT of overtime!

I agree with Rainband. You can NEVER LET YOUR GUARD DOWN. In 2003 for example Hurricane Juan, which went on to effect Central Nova Scotia and threaten East New England for a short time prior, just blew up out of nowhere. Sure there was a disorganized disturbance near Bermuda, but it didn't get it's act together until about 4 days before it made landfall, and took even more time (about 1 day prior to landfall) to pick it's exact target.

I think this board would explode these days if we had another 2004.... People would be going crazy if we didn't get any named storms till August. Just like the tornado season, the hurricane season can start early, finish early, start late, finish late, or never start at all! People really jsut neaed to let what happens happen. I personally am not getting at all excited until I see the first invest at least, and won't really start ramping up until we see the first TD. Chances are we won't see anything for a month or two yet and it's jsut a waste of energy getting hyped now. I'd rather save my energy for possible all nighters tracking bigger midseason storms

I bet we see our first TD within 45 days, because even seasons with no storms until later, all seemed to have had at least one or two depressions before hand.
