Holy Crazy Crap! I Found Fifi!

To anyone who's intersted, I've just stumbled on a satellite pic of 1974's elusive hurricane Fifi.

Go to the Monthly Weather Review archive page (you can use the link on the NHC website under "Annual Hurricane Season Articles")

Continue on to Volume 103 (1975)

Issue #6 (June) contains an article titled, "Eastern North Pacific Tropical Cyclones, Part 2 by Sharon Towry"

On the top of page eight of the print version you will find a series of photos of hurricane Fifi making landfall on central America and redeveloping into hurricane Orlene in the epac.

If anyone else wants to, they can add the link, I cannot 'cause I skipped the class that day and I don't know how to do it.

In reference to FIFI's notability, to quote the Monthly
Weather Review, "FIFI will be remembered chiefly
because of the appalling loss of life in Honduras caused
by inland flooding of rivers and streams."
As of the publication of the following 1974 article the
actual number of deaths due to FIFI was estimated between
3000 and 10000.

Additionally, as mentioned in the first post, FIFI is notable as
one of the few "cross-over" cyclones.

Can you post (or send) visible and sat of Dora? I only have the old school radar pic myself.

To be honest, the visible satellite pics of Dora aren't that great. They're actually pics of Ethel in '64. Dora just happened to be located to Ethel's northwest at the time so she just happened to get in the shot. Dora's radar pics are much better.

The Dora pics are in the Monthly Weather Review archives (just like the Fifi pic). I'll try to remember exactly which issue the pics were in.

I'd love to see the pic of Hurricane Donna of 1960. I've poured over all of Google's results for "satellite 'Hurricane Donna' 1960" and none are pics of Donna.

I found one in a book. Considering how new satellites were back then, it's a rather good image.
