No way!!
Something is wrong, there is NO WAY on gods green earth that this is a conuinsidence(spelling?). Katrina, Rita,Wilma now this!! Whats going on.... Scares me for next year if we have a storm like this bearin down on the u.s. Especially after joe b said upper tx and east coast.

There is satellite evidence that Monica weakened some before landfall. My guess based upon what I saw on satellite was a landfalling intensity of about 130kt. There was a station nearby but it was outside the eyewall and only got strong TS force winds. The area where Monica hit is extremely sparsely populated so there may not have been anyone living near the landfall location. There were some rather bodacious claims as to intensity based upon satellite analysis but the point to remember is that if there are no in situ measurements then those estimates remain just that-estimates and not official.
