I have a question

#1 Postby HurricaneHunter914 » Sun Apr 09, 2006 9:24 am

What exactly happens during a fujiwara between two tropical cyclones? Is it a survival of the fitest thing or do the cyclones combine?

Definition from the dictionary:

The Fujiwhara effect or Fujiwhara interaction is a type of interaction between two nearby cyclonic vorticies. When the vorticies approach each other, their centers will begin orbiting cyclonically about a point between the two systems. The two vorticies will be attracted to each other, and eventually spiral into the center point and merge. When the two vorticies are of unequal size, the larger vortex will tend to dominate the interaction, and the smaller vortex will orbit around it.

So they do both. When they are of equal size they merge but when one is bigger than the other the smaller one orbits around the biggere one or the bigger on eats it up. Is that what happened with Lisa and Matthew in 2004, when they came so close to each other Lisa took energy from Matthew and Matthew disappated?

:uarrow:

No, Lisa and a tropical disturbance. Matthew formed days later in the GOM and made landfall in Louisiana barely as a tropical storm.

This is a loop in which you can see how last year Max added Lidia to its circulation. Really cool! Talk about passion!

Another spectacular one was the Gil and Henriette one in the EPAC in 2002 I believe.

Also, if they are of equal size, they do not merge. One of two things happen: they shear each other to bits, or, like with the case of Humberto/Iris, when they start the interaction, one goes one way and the other another.

Wilma just absorved Alpha, there was never a battle or struggle between them. Therefore, I will say that Fujiwara didn't occur.

Excellent topic! I'd like to see the Fujiwhara effect happen in the Atlantic or EPAC this upcoming season.

No contest, Wilma comes in like "Fujiwara? with you? Why when I can just wipe you out"

110mph vs 30mph

Wilma about 7 times alphas size

over before it started

Alpha said it wasn't fair because she went over very tall mountains and Wilma went over the Everglades and flat land. Apla wanted a rematch but she will have to fight Whitney in 2011!!!
