I would say June,if conditions are extremly favorable,May. Right now, there is too much shear, for anything to develop ,that of course, changes from year to year, depending on the set-up.

We had a tropical wave earlier this month. In also they start forming to a point around late may into early June. But don't expect any chance for a depression to form from one intill mid June like a few years ago.

Tropical waves of some kind usually become evident as early as mid April. Depending on how strong the subtropical ridge is... you may be able to follow them in the deep tropical Atlantic mostly s of 10n. Typically by May they become easier (though not easy) to track. Last year had well-defined waves in May.. we'll see if this year is similar.

The earliest i noted was april 5 in 1991;last year was may02;in 1994,was june 16...
These info can be found in the TWO,and for the oldest years in the MWR revue,in an subject they called"tropical waves";in this article, the authors described the waves season of the atlantic, with their dte of passage over Barbados...Of course, the first wave may also be first described in a TWO in the part concerning the carribean réion.
Hello cycloneye,i saw the clouds rotation in your vicinity this pm,and hope you got no much rain.
Hi to all of you in this upcomming season..So long

I thought tropical waves rolled off the African coast year round. Of course, out of season, many would be extremely far south, correct?

Not trying to say that they do anything, but are they not present year-round?

They do. They just form, and move, along such a low latitude that they can not get the spin they need started; due to the weakness/lack of a Corialius Effect (sp?)near the Equator. That and as the line moves further North, pre season, the strong Wind Shear tends to shred 'em apart.

Typically, we start to see tropical waves (areas of disturbed weather that create a "wave" in the trade windflow) in late April, early May...
