Rita changed life as we knew it, for many people. For my fellow Texans and Louisiana neighbors who continue to rebuild and adapt to the changes, I hope that things are going well for you, and I pray that any hurricanes this year stay far, far away!

Wow how time goes by fast right Kelly.I hope that all in those areas have a full recovery very soon and the most important thing is that no landfalls occur this season in that area to allow for a total recovery for those folks.

Much of the southwest coast of Louisiana, from what I have seen, still looks just as bad as the 9th Ward of New Orleans...

i didn't think Beaumont was really affected all that much.

Much more of a LA storm... no surge and cat 1/2 winds in your area...

You're right, the Beaumont/Port Arthur area wasn't affected by nothing but some measily Cat 1/2 winds, that's all...  Just because you don't have surge, doesn't mean you didn't have major destruction!

Wow. Are you serious? And only cat. 1/2 winds?

Let's see...I wasn't aware that only surge caused major damage during a hurricane. And all those silly homes and businesses in Beaumont and surrounding areas were destroyed for nothing. You should have told some of my friends who had what was left of their home bulldozed on Thursday that they didn't need to have that done and then rebuild, since they didn't get the surge. And my nutty grandparents, with trees crushing their house. But that really didn't affect them much either. All those pictures I posted here - what was I thinking? I shouldn't have wasted my time. Most of them weren't surge damage, but were from that pesky wind "non-event." I shouldn't have wasted my time. Image
And crazy ol Entergy, knocking out the entire power grid in SE TX for nothing, blaming it on Rita causing more damage than Katrina to Entergy's transmission and distribution systems, and power plants. Then keeping many people's power out for weeks...silly them.

Everything we've all been through these past 6 months could have been avoided if only we'd known earlier that we weren't really affected. Dang media too...they still talk about the Rita aftermath and recovery here all the stinkin' time. And all these construction workers everywhere should just go away since we don't need them. And oh boy...I should have lots more money since I wasn't really affected! woohoo!!
I'm going to tell my parents and my sister to quit fretting over how long the repairs are taking and my sister's battle with insurance since FEMA declared her house uninhabitable. All is well after all. It's all in our minds. *Twilight Zone music* Image

I think my point is clear and I'm surprised that someone who frequents Storm2k as much as you would be so misinformed. The media is one thing...they were more interested in New Orleans even while Rita was hammering SE TX and SW LA. But Storm2k regulars? Yeah, just kinda surprising, I guess. :)

Anyway, the reason for this thread was to remember what Rita did to us 6 months ago, and kinda share something with other Rita victims who have been recovering since then. Many of us have been through a lot, some more than others. It wasn't yet another thread for someone who isn't here to tell people who are that it wasn't so bad. It was. And I pray we never see anything worse. This was plenty!

Just because they did not see surge means they had no damage? Okay, I do not understand this thinking. It is what it is jax.

You are from PECAN (PEE=CAN), Mississippi! Your area was also decimated. Take a ride to Texas and see what wind can do!

True. That thinking does seem rather asinine

Does this look like nothing to u

southerngale wrote:Some of the pics were taken right after, others a few weeks, a month and some a few months afterward. I can't possibly post all of them and as said in many other places, it's just not the same thing when looking at the damage through pictures. I took some of these and others were taken by other area residents and a few from the newspaper, etc.

Hmmm, those are from 6mos back. Gotta wonder if we will be seeing fresh new pics like this 6mos ahead from beaumont or other places on the US Coast.

You obviously did not take the time to scan the pictures. The vast majority of the pictures are from Texas. Sabine, Vidor, Orange, Jasper are all part of Texas.

Take a drive thru the region and get back with us about how limited the impacts were on Beaumont and elsewhere in Texas.

The last few pics are Cameron. The others are from Jasper and Sabine Pass not to mention Beaumont. You are just finding ways to start trouble.

Read the location below each picture.

Oh I forgot... Rita didn't really happen. It was all a vast conspiracy. How silly of me...
