What does La Nina mean for 2006 Hurricane season

#1 Postby boca » Thu Jan 12, 2006 10:42 am

Does it mean a more active season and will Florida get a break this year along with the Gulf coast. Will North Carolina be under the gun this year as I read in another post because of these conditions. I can't imagine another repeat of 2005.

Cape Verde monsters might be a good thing. After all, of the homegrown storms, many have become terribly destructive, for example, Katrina and Rita and Wilma. However, some Cape Verdes manage to slip away from the coast, for example: Fabian (sure it hit Bermuda, but that's better than 8 or 80 billion damage in the US), Karl, Cindy, Eduardo, etc. in the last few years.

In this part of the World, North of the Carolinas, we have dodged so many bullets for so long that most people don't take hurricanes seriously. The last real storm was Bob in 1991 which was a mere cat 1/cat 2 at landfall. Except for a small area around Buzzard's Bay it didn't do that much damage in the NE. I hope you guys are wrong about lots of Cape Verde storms this season. Because the more of them there are the greater the chances we get up here of a hit or several, maybe even a major one.

Um.....Bob caused $1.8 billion in damage and killed 18 people.

Bob was also a strong Category 2. Although damage wasn't really destructive, it was widespread throughout southern New England. I live in Western Massachusetts and there were trees down everywhere.

not necessarily but maybe even more intense storms and more of an east coast threat. Whoknows if it will be worse but it sure will be bad.
