#1 Postby cycloneye » Mon Jan 02, 2006 5:57 pm

After my experiences with Hugo and Georges I can ride a 1 or a 2 but 3 and higher I go away.I live in a 5th floor in condo and my Georges experience here was not so pleasant.

Considering how well my house did during Ivan,I feel my house is strong enough to survive category 3 winds. But I don't stick around for anything higher than a 3.

Been through a cat 1 and a cat 2.

Used to say I'd not stay for a cat 3 or 4. But after Wilma, I won't stay for a 3, 4 or 5.

I'll hang around for pretty much anything, as living just over 50 miles from the upper Chesapeake and almost 120 miles from the nearest ocean makes most storms weaken down quite a bit before I get them.

I would perfer leave for anything above a low-end Cat 3. HOWEVER, given my current status (thanks to my SO's job loss from Wilma), I may not have a choice. Living in Miami, my only choice is to go up. Because of chronic ear infections, I can not currently fly. And driving through FL, even staying somewhere in FL doesn't work so well when a 'cane follows you!

That said, I would go to a shelter or a family member/friend's house for anything beyond a 2. Our condo building was downright scary in Wilma, and I don't trust it one bit.

Are you kidding? I would not like to stay for ANY category if I had the choice. Sorry, but after seeing and living the lessons of Katrina and Wilma, I even fear a tropical storm. I now fear any storm... the ONLY exceptions are the VERY FEW "weak" storms (e.g., a storm like Lee). No storm for me is fun.

cycloneye, can you add "none" to the poll?

I'd ride out a Cat 5, even though it is extremely unlikely even in a Category 5 eyewall that I would experience Cat 5 winds. I would simply get into my shower with a mattress or something over my head and hope for the best. Storm surge is not an issue since im 3 miles inland and the shelf runs really close to the shore.

Ah, ignorance.

Oh, please. Talk about stupidity. Havn't you learned ANYTHING about being thankful and about storms after this season?

I'm sorry for sounding insulting, and I apologize, but after Katrina and Wilma, I'm changed. I'm now a saint when it comes to storms. Every storm is different, but every storm causes destruction.

Ah, the ignorance of teenagers.

You probably wouldn't "ride it out" then. You'd likely be dead.

That's just foolish.

Yes, it would be frightening, but its something I wish to experience. I was not scared at all during Wilma, in fact I was outside in the eyewall. The building code is rated to 150 mph I believe, the only thing I have to worry about are the shutters failing or the roof going, and I am in an inside enclosed area with a mattress over my head. I would be quite safe.

Fine. Believe what you want to believe.

And for your information, I certainly WAS scared during Wilma.

This poll is quickly becoming sad. I can't believe the number of people who would ride out a Category Three.

Insanity!

Well in a Category 3 you most likely will not experience Cat 3 winds, so you are quite safe in a shuttered home. I would only be scared in my house during a Category 4 or 5.

What dillusionment of the mind! Havn't we learned ANYTHING after this season?

Well, I sure have. Every sensible person on the Gulf coast and in Florida has.

The damage from Wilma was quite minor, I don't see any evidence of any damage here anymore. The devastation with Katrina was from the surge, which would not occur here.

QUITE MINOR??? Yeah, right! What are you trying to pull? What about the mobile homes destroyed by Wilma along Lake Okeechobee?

You are already making me sad...
