No. Not until we see years with 2-3 storms actually forming in December, and having something like 7 out of 10 years have at least 1 storm in December. We may need to eventually, but that will be a few years (10+) off at a miniumum.

I would add an extra week into Dec. with the pattern of Dec. systems.

I was thinking June 15th to december 15th but with Arlene this year I'm not as sure

I think it should be considered but maybe wait a few years and see if the trend keeps up

I don't see a need. All these late-season storms have been in the central or east Atlantic. IMO "hurricane season" is when the populace should worry about tropical storms and we've gotten none in the W. Atlantic. If anything were to be done, I'd think we should open a new basin, the NE Atlantic, and start a new season there a la the 3 Pacific basins. Miami can't track these storms properly because the hunters are too far away, so we'd need a new center, probably European.

A reason I see not to extend the season is I find it fun to talk about these unique post season storms

5 of the last 7 seasons have seen December tropical cyclones. I say the add two more weeks.

Are you counting storms that form in November and extend through December?

In the past 7 seasons 4 seasons have seen tropical cyclones during December

In the past 7 seasons 5 tropical cyclones have existed during December

In the past 7 seasons only ONE season has had tropical storm FORMATION during December

in the past 7 seasons only 2 tropical cyclones have actually FORMED during December (both in 2003)

I think we are good at June-November. The before and after season storms are still few and far between, with the exception of 2005 of course. 8-)

I think its pretty dumb to just state an artificial start or end date.
