Cape Verde El Nino?

#1 Postby hurricanetrack » Thu Dec 29, 2005 9:09 pm

Is there such a thing as an Atlantic El Nino? Look at this map:

https://www.fnmoc.navy.mil/products/NCO ... nomaly.gif

The water west of Africa is well above normal while the Pacific has quite a cool plume well past the Dateline.

As my buddy James would say, "Hmm!"

You know, I've been staring at that orange for weeks now, and I never thought of it like that. I don't think so, because I don't think the Atlantic has any Kelvin waves to pile up on the east side. (that we know of or track, anyway) But I'm not completely sure.

there is no enso of any significant in the Atlantic due to its small size of equatorial waters. The waves travel too fast to have any effect in the MDR

Derek, can you please explain this Kelvin wave and what it does? I have heard of it, but never really knew what it was? Thanks.
