What Was 2005's Most Impressive Storm(s) on Imagery?

#1 Postby MiamiensisWx » Thu Dec 22, 2005 11:36 am

This poll is about which storm from 2005 that you think looked the best on satellite images. This poll only includes storms from 2005, unlike my other satellite imagery poll which included storms from other years and went only up to Emily from 2005.

Thoughts, comments, and votes are welcome! Images may also be posted!

I think Katrina looked best on imagery this year, with Rita, Wilma, and Maria following closely behind. Katrina was incredible!

Here she is...

notice the pentagram in her eye.those satallite pictures is how people on the gulf coast will remember Katrina.they will remember her as this huge gigantic super strong CAT 5 175 mph or 150 knots hurricane as stated in the NHC report that was going to turn NO into another Atlantis with her 30 + ft storm surge

I don't see it on these images above. Where is it? Are you referring to other images of Katrina? I have seen it on other images. Can you find those images with the star pattern (pentagram) in Katrina's eye?

It will also be remembered as a political disaster.

thats the bad part they instead want to point who was responsible instead of helping those who lost everything which isn't going to solve anything.its been said all along N.O was a disaster waiting to happen

To be honest, the media also focused too much on New Orleans. Not just too much, but WAY too much. What about Mississippi, Alabama, and other areas of Louisiana that were hit by the gigantic surge and had areas nearly wiped out? Meanwhile, New Orleans wasn't destroyed, as many believe; structures are still standing there, while areas that TRULY got the surge (e.g., Mississppi and Alabama) were nearly wiped out. However, those areas have gotten practically no attention AT ALL.

I do still think Wilma was incredible... Wilma is just behind - but very close to - Katrina in appearance ranking, in my opinion. So is Rita. It has nothing to do that I don't think those other storms were incredible. THEY WERE!

Might be Katrina on IR, Wilma on visible. Katrina and Wilma mostly tie on visible, because they are different types of storms. Wilma was the pinhole eye type and Katrina the annular eye type (not making it an annular hurricane, necessarily). It is about as hard to compare as apples and oranges. On IR, disregarding the color, Katrina wins because its eye is spectacular and Wilma is very assymetrical.

On the other hand, Wilma had scary cold cloud tops.

You just can't beat Wilma's pin hole eye, I mean, just look at it and stare: Image

I had to go Katrina, as her perfect huge eye was more mezmorizing than Wilma's perfect little eye.

Katrina in the middle of the GOM was so close to perfect looking it wasn't even a contest IMO. Classic buzzsaw appearance.

The main reason why I voted for Katrina instead of Wilma was not because Wilma was not astonishing, it was because that Katrina had an amazing buzzsaw appearance and large, round eye and thick clouds. This made Katrina have a classic appearance. However, Rita and Wilma have been vastly underrated (especially by the media).

New Orleans wasn't destroyed, but 80% of the city was under water. Eastern New Orleans is still uninhabitable. The reason New Orleans is mentioned so much, dare I say because I don't want to sound like a racist, is that the city is about 80-85% African-American. It's all political. New Orleans is also a major port. I agree, the rest of Louisiana and the Gulf Coast have been forgotten about.
