Need hi-res images/loops of Wilma over florida please

#1 Postby THead » Mon Nov 14, 2005 7:28 pm

Anyone compile any hi-res sat, or really good radar loops of Wilma over Florida? I obviously wasn't online watching and have been busy the last few weeks......I'd be interested in anything anyone has, like maybe even some street level maps of eye passage, etc etc. Thanks in advance for any info!

When it was over the center of Florida its eye covered from west coast to east coast. It was Amazing...

I'm still wondering how much damage it did down there. I heard no where near Katrina's damage.

Nowhere near Katrina's damage in the gulf coast I assume you mean. I can't believe the extent, the widespread effects of Wilma. I've driven all over S. Florida, from here to Clewiston is about 70 miles north, and it was almost as bad there as it was here. I'm guessing they got the northern/western eyewalls. I believe we were in the very SE corner of the eye, as it passed over. We had diminished winds for about 15 minutes, but I knew the worst was coming with the southern/western eyewall. It was an incredible experience. We have 4 8 story hi rise buildings in our development, the roof blew off all of them, and that was before we got the eye. The last half of the storm was more than I expected. When it seemed to me like it should be abating, it just kept getting stronger and stronger. We have a few gabled roofs blown off in this area, and alot of damage to even tile roofs, both barrel and amazingly flat tiles blown off too. And of course alot of shingled roofs with serious damage. Its the worst I've seen in this area since I've been here.......1984. I can't even imagine what a cat 4 or 5 would do to this area, its beyond comprehension. I never thought I would evac, being in the location I am, 7 miles inland, and in a solid CBS building....but I will definitely be rethinking that strategy if we ever have a 4 or 5 bearing down on us.

We had much much more damage from Wilma than Katrina in the Keys. Storm surge caused millions in damage to docks, marinas, boats, and flooded houses from Key West to Key Largo. Katrina brought down some trees, but Wilma was stronger, wider, and caused extensive bayside surge.

I too would like to see a Nexrad loop, wasn't able to capture anything during the storm.

Ahhh, now I finally see what happened. It looks like the southern eyewall rebuilt itself right over us here, and darn near the whole thing ripped right through us. And we were right in the very SE corner of the eye. Thanks. We're almost directly west of the "ft. Lauderdale" label, right next to the 2nd north-south red line, which is the florida turnpike. Looks like we also got a hefty portion of the eastern eyewall. Again, can't imagine what a 4 or 5 would feel like.....wow.

Thanks everyone. It was really rough watching her come through, having no power to see radar, to see what was still coming. Like flying blind. Really missed storm2k for those hours!
