I'm in Utter Shock as a Possible Major Hurricane Gamma Lurks

#1 Postby gatorcane » Mon Nov 14, 2005 12:04 am

Here we are in mid November with a possible major hurricane down the road in the Caribbean moving W as if we were in a summer-time regime....

I'm floored.

It reminds me of Charley/Dennis. But the Gulf is way to unfaverable for a hurricane this time of the year.

The Caribbean has SSTs that are warm enough to support a major hurricane....the northern GOM may not...but the southern GOM has warm enough SSTs. Min temps need to be 78F and higher to sustain a hurricane.

it would only be appropriate for a Greek-named storm to hit the U.S., if it did so it would be during Thanksgiving week...

*so* many records could be broken with possible future Gamma

My natural inclination is to dismiss this as a "not going to happen" issue being the time of year, history etc...

However, given how bizarre this season has been and how many times the "conventional wisdom" that I follow has been wrong; I will strictly avoid the temptation to dismiss.

Who knows what the heck this will do???

I just know that both the Gulf Coast and South Florida can't take another one!

I'm having a difficult time buying into the GFDL intensity. A west track would bring the future Gamma right into the shear......MGC

shear or atmopheric conditions never stay the same they are constantly changing ... we need to watch the shear forcast's from the models...

Exactly...if you read the NHC Discussion, Stacy Stewart mentions how shear is expected to lessen to 10 kts or less...right at the time "GAMMA" gets in the late season favored Western Caribbean.

all I have to say is

STAY AWAY from South Florida Gamma!!!!!

Another hit by even a CAT 1 or hybrid system will be very bad for this already struggling community.....

You know, I feel the same way. I am not nearly as interested in this system as I was just about any other storm this season(except maybe a couple of the weak fishes). I guess it's just because it's Mid-November and I'm just tired...

I seriously can't take another one! Wilma cost my SO's job (she sold theatre subscriptions, and nobody can afford them this year, so they cut the jobs), and we're still struggling just to eat and live! :raincloud:
