New What's the Last Storm for 2005?

#1 Postby Steve » Thu Oct 27, 2005 4:06 pm

What do you think? I'm stopping with Eta since that leaves the option for 5 additional named storms from now through November 30th (or beyond). No way November gives us 5 named storms, but...

Scary thought that we may go deeper in the Greek alphabet than we have gone in some years in the standard alphabet.

I guess I didn't update the option when I put in Eta, so it only goes to Zeta (6th letter of the Greek Alphabet). /my bad

I went for Zeta.

After this year - NOTHING - would surprise me.

I said Delta a few days ago(before Beta) and I'm sticking to it.

I said Zeta. Again, for no reason other than Zeta starts with Z and Z is the last letter of the normal alphabet and it would be fitting for the year to end with Z.

However, Zeta is also 4 storms away, which seems almost a reasonable estimate (perhaps a stretch).

I originally thought we'd end it with Delta, but now, I think we'll go farther than Zeta. The tropics show no signs of going to sleep for the winter just yet.

I would have voted, but Kappa wasn't an option.

In June, when I found this board, I speculated that Beta would be the end.

Now I say Epsilon. I fear that we could see a Vince type storm in December to be the capper to what has been an absolutely amazing season.

Nothing official. If it were up to me, it would be the early 1950's names(Able, Baker, Charlie, Dog, Easy, Fox....). Back on topic, I voted for Epsilon.

I voted either Gamma or Delta (forgot which LOL) as being the last named storm. It's very tough to get more than a couple of storms in November. With SST anomolies across the tropical Atlantic starting to come down, I'm not confident that we'll see more than one or two more named storms this seasons. It's nice to think that, since the season up to this point has been amazingly above average, the rest of the year will be above average as well. However, I'm not sure this will be the case. IIRC, we tend to see 1 named storm after Nov 1 on average. If the conditions come back to 'average' or 'normal' for this time of year, there's not particular reason (other than statistical chance) that we'll continue to see above average activity through the end of the year. Conditions are more favorable that climatology would suggest, thus the reason I'm thinking we could see another 2 named storms this year.
