EXPERIMENTAL HURRICANE FORECAST
HURRICANE WILMA
NJN WEATHER CENTER
610 PM FRI OCT 21ST 2005
Hurricane Wilma continues to flat out dis-assemble the Mexican coast this evening with winds well over 140 mph. She is still a very strong Category 4.
Wilma is making those in Florida very ancy. Her slow movement has caused those in Central and South Florida to consistently be monitoring the storm, wondering which path she'll eventually take.
Wilma should batter the Mexican coast and Yucatan enough that she is a weaker Cat 1 or 2 as she begins her turn towards Florida, with a landfall sometime expected on Monday. It is important for everyone from about Tampa southward continue to monitor the storm because it's still not sure how far north she'll be when she begins to approach Florida.
My own personal forecast has Wilma making landfall somewhere a little north of Ft. Myers. With an exact location undetermined. This could and likely will change as Wilma meanders around out there.
Residents in Central Florida should expect at the very least a wet weekend, with the possibility of strong tropical storm force winds. Remember.. TS winds go from 39-73 mph. Those winds can cause damage if proper outside objects are not properly secured.
The storm is forecast to quickly accelerate into the Atlantic after leaving Florida.
Here's my forecast on Wilma:
Tonight: Battering the Yucatan, weakening as it does. Max winds: 140 mph
Saturday: More weakening, more battering. Max winds: 115 mph
Sunday: Finally re-emerging, Watches and Warnings for Florida. Max winds: 95 mph
Monday: Making landfall in the early PM. Somewhere north of FT Myers. Max winds: 100 mph
Tuesday: Into the open Atlantic, possibly restrengthening in the open waters. Max winds: 85 mph
Wilma #4: Watching and waiting, lots of wind..
