And some wonder why there is no roof damage caused by the winds....obviously, it would be hard for the wind to blow the roof off of that house!

Interesting point. Along those same lines, 'ya know, many of the piers along the coast here - especially on the south side of the bay - are still intact simply because they went well under water so quickly. Therefore, they were well protected - including the roofs on many of them!

Of course another reason for the "shingle issue" was the direction of the wind. As I mentioned in other threads, many houses had extreme shingle damage on the south and southeast side of their roofs, but not so much on the opposite side. If nothing else, Katrina's winds were consistent from the south and southeast, this I supposed unless your home was directly in the eye.

Not sure, a friend emailed me these, and did not say. It appears like someone is on the roof.

In my area, our winds were mostly from the ENE, switching to the E as the eyewall passed over. There are numerous homes with those pretty blue roofs on them now :) . My house faces west. The front of our roof is nice a pretty. The back side has a few black spots on it where I put roofing tar over areas where a shingle tab or two blew off. I also had to put a lot of tar around one of the vents on the roof. Katrina blew the sucker off, leaving a hole that was about 6" x 6" over my bedroom. (Got a water bed out of the deal LOL). I found the vent on the front lawn and put it back in it's place, nailed it down and tarred the doo doo out of it so it wouldn't leak. Haven't had any rain since the storm, so I'm not sure how well my tarring job is.
