Nervously watching here

#1 Postby Josephine96 » Tue Oct 18, 2005 4:29 am

Wondering if it's gonna go as far south as they project.. For some reason or another, I see it going a little further north.. Hopefully not too much.. but enough that I'll probably see a lot more wind and rain then I might already see with this..

somewhat concerned here... family with our waterfront home in bonita beach.

will see what the next two days have in store until any drastic actions are taken. too early to shutter up and leave. plans and supplies, etc. were made with charley and will carry over with this storm.

When I lived in Kissimmee, we went through Hurricane Erin and it was more of an inconvenience than anything else. Of course our apartment at that time was on the Disney power grid, so we never lost power either.

Welcome to to S2K neighbor! :) We will keep you as informed as it gets around here..The cutie on Wink-TV could not ignore the graphics today..We shall be watching to see if it's north or south of here..which will make a big difference as to how far the flooding pushes inland up the river..

Hey Josephine....I live in East Central Florida . Channel 9 said it could possibly be as far north to hit Osceola and Southern Brevard. We will just have to wait and see. I know with Erin it was not the actual storm but the rain the day after that  was a mess. Stay tuned

Of course I'm sure you know that when Charley can screaming through it was much more than an inconvenience this far inland, and this storm has the potential to be similar to Charley, i.e. coming in at about the same place with similar strength (hopefully a lot weaker) and moving at similar speed: fast. Fast is good in that there will be no prolonged rain/flooding but fast means less time to wind down therefore stronger winds. Also the winds are stronger in the right front quad because you add to the sustained winds within the storm the forward speed. If a storm of 90 mph is moving at a 25 mph clip, you get 115 mph winds.

I'm keeping a close eye on this one down this way, that's for sure. The bad thing for us here in Dade/Broward is that if Wilma comes in over the Everglades, there really isn't anything to weaken her much. Most of us Floridians will just be permanent fixtures at S2K this week ;)

the speed of which it will making the trip is a big concern to me. probably not a big rain event but cat 1 KAT knocked out power to 1.5 mil in sofla. ericinmia is concerned also, had an IM awaiting me when i woke up this morning, he is probably sleeping now.

Yep, foladar lives in my vicinity and I had a PM from him wondering how I felt about this one too. I'm not concerned prep wise because we're still stocked on water from after Katrina (we were on a boil water order, so the Natl. Guard gave out cases to us down here), and I have batteries, etc. from Rita. I just know that the models are clustered too well, too consistently for S. FL's good. We'll see though.

Agreed, Erin was a bunch of nothing here , just wind zero rain lost power for 4rhrs not a big deal. Charley we lost most of our roof, flooding, mold, heat, far more worse. However the GFDL is ticking me off saying we may get Cat3 winds here, the damage from Charley was only Cat1 Sustained winds!!!! :(

True, before Katrina, I had to worry about two avocado trees in my back neighbor backyard, one tree in my neighbor to the right, and one tree in front of my house. After Katrina and before Wilma, I only have to worry about the tree in front of my house. After Wilma, I don't know!

That is the one bright side I guess....Katrina took care of a lot of the weaker trees, so maybe there won't be quite as many to come down

I think there is a problem with my ability to appreciate hurricanes, I like to track them but with the power on. Katrina was quite an experience, my first real hurricane, but the power was out for 5 days; don't like that! I remember just starring at the window (do not attempt by the way) and seeing the wind and the rain just screaming outside, moving faster than a train. Quite an experience!

I'm worried too! I don't think anyone really understands this threat. Many people think a storm would weaken after a hit on the SW coast before it reaches the Metro areas. 5 days without power from Katrina (I live in one of those lucky neighborhoods with lots of trees).

I hear ya, Tiny...I'm here too!

My dad lives in Bonita and my inlaws are in Ft. Myers.

Not liking what some of the models are showing. Would be thrilled if Wilma makes a run through the Florida Straits and then out to sea...keep praying...ya never know!

Yeah, nervously watching. Katrina was a decent storm (but we kept power!), Rita skipped south, but I always worry that sooner or later our luck will run out.

I can't imagine no power in this heat. :(
