Question

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Question

#1 Postby Cookiely » Mon Sep 26, 2005 3:35 pm

Can anyone give me a link so that I can find out the elevation for the land in our neighborhood? We have never had any flooding where we live and I know we are safe from surge.

This is what I use. Beware...if you download it, you cannot tear yourself away from it!

http://www.fema.gov/fhm/st_main.shtm might be able to find something here. I am not sure as my computer is being glitchy today but it looks promising.

Cookiely:

Since my son lives in Tampa, I went to the Hillsborough County website and found the SLOSH models. I don't remember exactly how to get around the site but you should be able to find it. A Google search will find the county website. Good luck,

Lynn

Or, unfortunately, "I thought we were safe from surge"

And since no one's come right out and said it, hey Cookiely, you live where? I don't think you are totally safe from surge as long as your address ends in "FL".

Think I can safely say I am safe from storm surge here in Sebring. We are at over 100 ft above sea level. It would take one h*** of a storm to send a surge this far inland and at that height. This center area of the state is called The Ridge and some places north of me are higher.

That doesn't mean I couldn't be flooded by the canal I live on though.

http://www.topozone.com

Once you figure out the navigation/magnification features, you can access detailed topographic maps of your area. 8-)
