It's been a crazy 2 years, after no majors from From the end of 1999-2003. We have had 6 in just 13 months.

When did the United States get hit by two sub 940mb hurricanes? I believe a never. We've never gotten hit by 2 cat 4s before, and most 940s are cat 4s.

I'll bite. Since 1930:
Years with 2 or more Gulf of Mexico major huricane landfalls.
2005 (Dennis, Emily, Katrina, and Rita)
2004 (Charley and Ivan)
1966 (Alma (Hit the Dry Tortugas) and Inez)
1964* (Hilda (Weakened to a 110 mph Cat. 2, so possible it was a major) and Isbell)

Years with 2 or more U.S. Gulf coast major hurricane landfalls
2005 (Dennis, Katrina, and Rita)
1964 (See above section)

Years with 2 or more Louisiana Hurricanes
2005 (Katrina and Rita)
1985 (Danny and Juan, with Elena coming very close)

Years with 2 or more Louisiana Major Hurricanes
2005 (Katrina and Rita)

Another question, has there been a season with 9 or more GOM landfalls?

2005 (ARLENE, BRET, CINDY, DENNIS, EMILY, GERT, JOSE, KATRINA, RITA)

I can make out about 6 GOM landfalls for 1933, but I think 2005 holds the record.

Hilda in 1964 peaked as a Cat 4 in the GOM.
