Upwelling before coast ?

#1 Postby camilletider » Wed Sep 21, 2005 11:56 pm

Let's get off of the NHC's back and not nit-pick them or each other and just absorb the spectacle that this is. I will go on and say what others may not feel comfortable saying. YES, I want to see just what this storm is actually dishing out and mainly for my own curiosity. I plead guilty to being absolutely fascinated by this storm. Outflow has not looked all that great from W to N for most of the day. Rita has moved over or near waters that have already been tapped on by three hurricanes of Cat 4, 4, and 5. Yet, she looks like a blasted full-bore NW Pac Supertyphoon. Unbelievable.

It looks to me like it has strengthened without a doubt from when the 897 reading was taken. I'm not just an insufferable goul here as I have a friend like a brother and a brother-in-law in Houston. My thinking is that this kind of strength is almost sure to cause major upwelling as she gets near the coast. A number of factors will aid this all the more.

_Any ERC will almost certainly cause these monster winds to spread and weaken out over some of the aforementioned upwelling. Remember Gibert's example.
_Secondly, the curve to the North that she is supposed to make before landfall will give even more opportunity for upwelling to wear on her.
_Add in some good ole crusty Texas drought(sp?) air and I think we can get some real weakening.
_Lastly the concave shape of the coast will possibly have some effect on her as well. I believe this may have been a small factor with Emily.

Am I sure of these things? Of course not, they are just observations from observing a number of these storms over the years and listening to smart people when I got the chance. Please some Mets or knowledgeable comments welcomed. Perry, are you here tonight?
