I just watched an Emergency Management guy from New Orleans predict that a storm like this one or Georges could cause up to 44,000 deaths.

CNN is now all over this, so I'm sure in 24 hours we'll see the reality hit home to those folks who did not evacuate.

WWL weathery guy in NO just mentioned that buoys close to the storm were reporting 30 foot waves and that was expected near the LA coast tomorrow.

This graphic spells things out pretty good for the MS coast. 14 foot surge at Waveland!!

Not sure what measures they used when it was created, but now that she's a cat 4 - potential cat 5 - it may be even higher.

This particular graphic is the highest of all the gulf coast areas they provide on their map...

One of the most fascinating parts about this scenario is that it would take MONTHS to pump all the water out of the city. It's hard to imagine a major city undergoing something like that...
