30-40 billion will be an underestimate. NOLA is the worst place for a major hurricane to hit besides Tampa and New York City.

In the case of Andrew your talking about an area where about oh.. rough guess 9-14 times less people lived (general area, Homestead wasn't the only town effected), it's not even in the same ballpark. Yes New Orleans will still be standing (unless say it's a Camille) but I don't know if you appreciate the population diffrence between the current and past storms.

People need to stop overhyping. New Orleans is 50 miles inland and will not experience the strongest winds even if there is a direct hit.

Sure, cat 1 winds extend 45 miles from the center, but cat 1 winds won't do much damage. Homestead is 5 miles from the coast and is still there today. New Orleans is 50-70 miles from the coast depending on where the storm comes up from the south and will be there come Tuesday. A major cane coming in from the SE or ESE would be a different story, but this is not the case.

I am concerned about the Aquarium of the Americas. I love that place and have visited it 3 times. Absolutely beautiful place. The New Orleans Zoo is great, too. That's actually one of those cities that really has something for everyone.

I am not a troll nor ignorant - I have been thru 2 storms - someone saying New Orleans is safe because they are 50 miles inland with a storm of this size is wrong. Not only will there be winds to deal with but the flooding as well. Do you live there? IF so and this hits there come back and tell me it was a piece of cake.

That's what I love about NOLA! Whatever happens, you will be back and that includes all the area communities, cities, etc.

It will be back if it is hit - amaing how communities come together at a time like this, but it will take a long time to recover.

Are folks really this dramatic!?!?!? it like a big crowd hyping each other up. And I am not saying there wont be severe damage, but some of these dramatics are like bad acting on a soap opera.
