A Hurricane Watch will likely go up later today... and no later than 11pm tonight(I would say 5pm). Warnings tomorrow morning.

My guess is that NHC will issue a Hurricane Watch earlier than usual with this storm, due to the severe threat to hard-to-evacuate metro New Orleans.

Exactly, Dave, I wouldn't at all be surprised to see one at 11am even, but 5 sounds most likely.

The reason I don't see 11am is because the NHC will always say "All Interests in the (insert coastline) should closely monitor... a Hurricane Watch will likely be required later today"

Hurricane watch will be posted today. A watch does not have to be issued to start evacs. It takes New Orleans 72 hours to evacuate. I am sure they will start evacs soon. The OEP's are in meetings at 730AM.

Given that watches are for 36 hrs out and warnings 24 hrs out, I'd go with Brent's solution.

I'm guessing we might see TS watches out as early as 1100. Then add Hurricane watches to some of those areas at 1700 today?
