If there is any good news
Obviously the NC GOM is going to get whacked hard...no avoiding that...however...this may aide to significant upwelling and perhaps the future systems that may try to get into the gulf...as advertised by the hydro center may not be able to get as strong...the harm may have already been done...but it may save someone else...just something to ponder

This was said about Dennis as well - but look where we are. Still, we're late enough in the season that it is probably true.

I would disagree with you there, Matt. Not taking anything away from the graveness of a strong hurricane hitting New Orleans, but it would not send the USA into 2nd-class status. Far from it, actually. The spine of the USA isn't solely dependent on New Orleans.
