GFDL predicted a significant SW movement (albeit it was early with the SW turn) last night. Had Katrina followed the GFDL's projected path from last night, it might've been correct with the intensity, as well.

It has handled the steering currents very well thus far with Katrina... which worries me down the road.

Right on up into the big bend area. An amazing right hook is on the horizon!!

good lord -- I don't know enough to say whether the rest of the run makes sense, but I sure am hopeing that it doesn't!!!

Charley had an abnormally strong trough that pulled it up. I just don't know if there's anything like that to pull Katrina up.

Charlie had quite a strong trough pick him up, it was one of the strongest cold fronts occuring in summer that I can remember... there is no such trough coming to pick up Katrina, if fact the ridge is rather quite strong and if it does not weaken Katrina is certainly not going to plow through it.. that's why it turned west last night... there is a trough that is supposed to eventually come down to weaken the ridge which would allow the system to eventually turn to the north... that remains to be seen if that indeed happens...

Didn't GDFL have it staying offshore and hitting the Keys directly as a Cat 3???

Seems to me that while it did nail the SW track, it was still too extreme.
