Charlie had quite a strong trough pick him up, it was one of the strongest cold fronts occuring in summer that I can remember... there is no such trough coming to pick up Katrina, if fact the ridge is rather quite strong and if it does not weaken Katrina is certainly not going to plow through it.. that's why it turned west last night... there is a trough that is supposed to eventually come down to weaken the ridge which would allow the system to eventually turn to the north... that remains to be seen if that indeed happens...
