DelRay Beach in PREPARATION!

#1 Postby AnthonyC » Wed Aug 24, 2005 11:57 am

I just talked to my aunt who lives in DelRay Beach, FL and the entire community is bracing for Tropical Storm (soon to be Hurricane) Katrina. Local meteorologists are estimating sustained winds of 80 mph at landfall...a weak category 1...but anything is possible. You must remember, the SST temperatures are ridiculous...a majority of buoys report ocean temperatures above 90F. This could indicate rapid development...ie Hurricane Charley last year. Do I think Katrina will be stronger than 80 mph? Probably not...right now it's still getting its act together and landfall is very close so there's not much time to strengthen. BUT...and I emphasize BUT...it's a slow mover. Could it stall? Possibly...that would give it a longer time to strengthen. Only time will tell.

I reiterate that anybody in the hurricane watch area needs to not take this situation lightly....it could easily go up to CAT2 or CAT3 strength...just be prepared.

Also, please follow the NHC and local emergency management officials for official guidance and not this board...
