1998: N/A
1997: 88.0F
1996: 85.8F
1995: 84.0F

42003: Deep Water Buoy in the Eastern GOM (SST Analysis)
August 10th , 17z

2005 2nd warmest in 11 years. (1997) (2.7F warmer than 1995)

2005: 87.4F
2004: 86.4F
2003: 84.9F
2002: 84.6F
2001: 85.6F
2000: 86.0F
1999: 84.4F
1998: 86.2F
1997: 88.9F

Interesting to see that the hot temperatures in the gulf correlate to the calm year of 1997.

Perhaps this is the flip side of the temp being "too cold for snow".

It may be hard to start in the GOM, but existing systems would seem to have a wonderfull route...

yes, the last few years have seen rare sparks in the GOM but existing systems have had fun traversing the central GOM.

only to fall flat on their faces and die in the N GOM.

(with all due respect to the thousands made homeless by the weaker storms, of course. still, they were weaker than they could have been).
